The opposition is a group of people or organizations that disagree with, or are against, something. They may be in power or out of power. In countries with parliaments, the opposition is a political party that is not part of the government, called HM Official Opposition (Her Majesty’s Opposition in Britain). The leader of this party takes the title “Leader of the Opposition.” In sports, the opposition is the team you are competing against.
